Rail is particularly relevant when sea freight is too slow and air freight is uneconomical. Volume, weight, terminal access and current operating conditions determine whether it is the best option.

Transport charges: how they are calculated

International freight rates change with route, departure, capacity, fuel and currency. The main transport is therefore quoted at the current daily rate rather than presented as a permanently valid fixed price.

Which goods can travel by rail?+
